Entry Six: "The Ghosting"

Dear Moon,

I'm always the one who ends things.

I'm the one who sees it first. The one who feels the gap and names it. The one who walks away when something doesn't fit, even when it looks perfect on paper.

I've never had to ask why someone doesn't want me.

Until now.

Three days of silence.

After the family spa day, his texts stopped. Not gradually. Not with excuses or slow fade. Just... stopped.

Sunday night, I sent him a message: Thank you for coming today. My family liked you.

No response.

Monday morning, I checked my phone more times than I want to admit. Told myself he was busy. That work was overwhelming. That he'd respond when he had time.

Nothing.

Tuesday afternoon, I felt the sting start to spread. That creeping awareness that something had shifted. That the silence wasn't accidental.

I checked his Instagram. He'd posted a story, a photo of his coffee, a sunset, something mundane. So he was online. Just not responding to me.

Wednesday night, I broke.

I typed and deleted three different messages before settling on: Hey, is everything okay?

Simple. Casual. Like I wasn't sitting on my couch, heart pounding, phone gripped too tight in my hand.

Hours passed.

I made dinner. Didn't eat it. Watched a show I couldn't follow. Checked my phone, and hating myself for it.

Finally, at 10:47 p.m., my phone buzzed.

"I don't think I can give you what you need."

I stared at the screen.

Read it again.

Wait, what?

He's ending it.

Not me. Him.

I felt the confusion hit first. Then the sting. Sharp, spreading, unfamiliar.

He saw something I didn't see. Or maybe he saw something I did see but couldn't admit. And he left.

I've never been on this side of it.

I've been the one with clarity. The one who feels the gap and has the courage to

name it. The one who walks away when my body tells me something's wrong, even when my mind wants to make it work.

But this time?

He saw it first.

And I don't know what to do with that.

I read his message again, trying to find meaning between the lines. I don't think I can give you what you need. What does that mean? What do I need that he can't give? What did he see that I couldn't?

I typed back: Ok, thanks for letting me know. I enjoyed spending time with you...

What was I supposed to say?

Three dots appeared. Disappeared. Appeared again. Then never came back.

And that was it.

No explanation. No conversation. Just... done.

I sat on my couch, phone in my lap, feeling something I'm not used to feeling.

Rejected.

Not because I did something wrong. Not because I wasn't enough. Just... rejected.

He looked at what we had, the dinners, the effort, the family meeting, all of it, and decided it wasn't what he wanted.

And I'm sitting here, confused and stung, trying to understand why it hurts so much when I wasn't even sure I wanted him.

Maybe it's because I'm used to being the one who knows. The one who sees clearly.

The one who makes the decision.

But this time, he made it for me.

And I'm left holding a question I've never had to ask:

Why doesn't he want me?

I don't have an answer yet.

Just the sting. The confusion. The unfamiliar weight of being the one left behind.

—Still here, still confused, still stung
