Chapter 1 | Entry Eight

"The cruelest gift is knowing what it feels like to be fully met. Because once you know, you can never pretend that anything less is enough."
A memory surfaced tonight.
I didn't call it up. It just... arrived. The way memories do when your body needs to remember something your mind has been trying to forget.
We'd been walking along the beach trail for hours. Late afternoon, golden light pouring across the water, turning everything amber and warm. Talking, the kind of talking that happens when two people stop performing and start revealing.
Eventually we chose to sit on a bench overlooking the ocean. Watching the waves rolling in, steady and endless, and we just kept going deeper.
I don't even remember what I said. Something true. Something vulnerable. Something from the depths I usually keep hidden because most people don't want to swim that far down.
And instead of redirecting me, instead of making a joke or changing the subject or pulling me toward something lighter, something easier...
He leaned closer.
Not to kiss me. Not to seduce me out of my vulnerability.
He leaned closer to listen.
His eyes on mine, fully present, like my depth wasn't something to manage or redirect, it was something he wanted more of.
"Keep going," he said quietly. "I want to know."
And I felt it, that rare, precious thing. The feeling of being met.
Not just desired. Not just wanted for how I looked or the mystery I carried.
Met. Seen. Known.
My vulnerability didn't make him uncomfortable. It made him lean in.
And then, he reached over and touched my face. Slowly. His thumb tracing my cheekbone, his hand sliding into my hair, and the way he looked at me...
It wasn't the look of someone trying to claim my beauty.
It was the look of someone who saw my soul and wanted to get closer to it.
"I love the way you see the world," he whispered.
Not you're beautiful. Not you're different.
I love the way you see the world.
Like my depth and my beauty were inseparable. Like the more I revealed, the more he wanted. Like going deeper didn't scare him, it drew him in.
And when he kissed me, it wasn't a redirection. It wasn't him pulling me out of my vulnerability and into something safer, something more surface.
It was an answer.
His mouth on mine, slow and reverent, like he was saying yes to all of me. Yes to my depth. Yes to my vulnerability. Yes to the vastness I carry.
I felt my whole body open. Not just my lips, not just my skin, my whole self. The parts I usually guard, the depths I usually hide, the intensity I usually tuck away so I don't overwhelm someone.
All of it opened.
Because he wasn't afraid of it.
He wanted it.
And that's what I can't forget. That's what last night reminded me of.
I know what it feels like to be fully met now. I know what it's like when someone doesn't just want the mystery, they want to solve it. When they don't just want the allure, they want to know what's beneath it. When your depth doesn't send them running, it makes them want to dive deeper.
I know what it's like when emotional intimacy and physical desire aren't separate things. When vulnerability makes someone want you more, not less.
And that knowing is both a gift and a curse.
Because now I can't pretend.
I can't pretend that being wanted for my surface is enough.
I can't pretend that desire without depth will ever satisfy me.
I can't unknow what it feels like to be kissed by someone who wants all of me, the beauty and the vastness, the sensuality and the soul.
And the ache...the ache is that I had it once.
I had someone who didn't flinch when I went deep. Who leaned in instead of pulling back. Who saw my intensity as an invitation, not a warning.
And he walked away.
Not because I was too much. But because I reminded him of how much he could feel. How alive he could be. How deeply he could love.
And he chose to bury that instead.
So here I am, awake and whole and aching.
Knowing what's possible.
Knowing what I need.
Knowing I can't settle for anything less.
Even if it means being alone.
Even if it means waiting in this vast, tender ache for someone brave enough to meet me here.
Because I've been fully met once.
And I can never forget what that feels like.
